Jorge Martin, the reigning MotoGP world champion, will make his much-anticipated return to racing at the Czech Grand Prix in Brno this weekend. After spending months on the sidelines recovering from a serious injury, the Spanish rider is finally back on track with the Aprilia team. Fans and the paddock alike are watching to see how Martin fares after such a challenging recovery period.
Jorge Martin’s 2025 season has been far from straightforward. He crashed out during the Lusail race in Qatar earlier this year, sustaining multiple fractured ribs and a pneumothorax, serious injuries that forced him to miss several rounds. The crash left him in the hospital and, as Martin himself admitted, there were moments when he doubted whether he’d ever race again.
“When I was in the hospital, I didn’t know if I was able to ride again – this was the main issue,” he shared during his pre-event press conference in Brno. Four days in the ICU were a test of both physical resilience and mental strength. “I was speaking with my girlfriend, with my dad, with Aleix [Espargaro] some days, and I was doubting if I was able to come back to a MotoGP bike.”
After months of recovery and a private test at Misano, Jorge Martin feels he is ready to compete again. He describes himself as “more prepared than ever” and has credited this comeback to discovering a deeper courage within himself. Aprilia, his team, is taking a measured approach: they’ve described this Czech Grand Prix return as “effectively his pre-season,” giving Martin time to get back up to speed as the season heads to its summer break.
At this stage, neither Martin nor his team are putting pressure on results; rebuilding confidence and race fitness is the priority.
Despite this, paddock observers like Marc Marquez are confident that Martin’s form will return sooner rather than later. “He will be fast in the second part of the season,” Marquez commented, recognizing Martin’s natural speed and determination. The return isn’t just important for Jorge Martin or Aprilia, but also for MotoGP as a whole. The champion wearing the #1 plate on the grid is a boost for fans and adds an extra layer of excitement to the championship fight.
The Brno circuit is hosting its first grand prix since 2020, making Martin’s return even more special for MotoGP fans. Though Marc Marquez leads the championship after a strong run this year, all eyes will be on how Martin performs, whether he’ll look to score points or simply regain his rhythm after so much time away from the bike.
Jorge Martin’s return isn’t expected to dramatically shift the championship this weekend. Both the rider and Aprilia acknowledge that he’ll need time to get back to his best. But seeing the defending world champion back on the grid, especially after such a tough journey, is a moment worth appreciating.
