At the Athletics Federation Of India in Patiala, on Friday, discus throw player Kamalpreet Kaur qualified for the Olympics, breaking the national record. She broke the record of veteran athlete Krishna Poonia. Krishna Poonia threw the discus 64.76 meters away in the year 2012. This record was maintained for nine years and was finally broken by Kamalpreet Kaur. Kamalpreet Kaur threw the discus 65.06 meters away while the Olympic qualification standard record is 63.50 meters.

Hima Das won the gold medal in 200 meters in the same tournament, Hima Das won the gold medal by defeating the emerging female player Dhanalakshmi in the 200 meters. She took the time of 22.80 to complete the race. It was Dhanalakshmi who won the gold medal by defeating Duty Chand in the 100-meter race. Hima was disqualified in 100 meters.
