Khelo India Winter Games Gulmarg: Launch Date, Sports, Venue

The second phase of the Khelo India Winter Games is set take place in the breathtaking snow-clad mountains of Gulmarg in the Himalayas. The competition will take place from February 23 to 26, 2026.

This is the sixth edition of the Khelo India Winter Games in which more than 700 athletes and officials are expected to take part in the Gulmarg leg.

Khelo India Winter Games Gulmarg 2026: List of sports

The upcoming edition of the Khelo India Winter Games in Gulmarg is set to feature four disciplines. They are as follows:

  • Ski Mountaineering

  • Alpine Skiing

  • Nordic Skiing (Cross-Country)

  • Snowboarding

Around 400 athletes are set to compete in these categories, with Alpine Skiing drawing the highest participation.

Khelo India Winter Games Gulmarg 2026: Venue

The event will be held at the renowned Kongdoori slopes, An abundant snowfall this season has created ideal conditions for skiing and snowboarding.

The timing of the event, coming soon after the Winter Olympics Milano Cortina 2026, has been described as strategic. Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya said the Games will sustain the enthusiasm generated by the Winter Olympics and further energize India’s winter sports ecosystem.

The first leg of the Khelo India Winter games was held from January 20 to 27 in Ladkah. Haryana won the overlall championship with four gold medals.

This is the second Khelo India event of this year following the Khelo India Beach Games that was held in Daman and Diu.

The Winter Games are part of the Khelo India initiative of the government to promote sports at the grass-root level and nurture budding talents. Launched in 2020, the Khelo India Winter Games has helped promote the winter sports across the length and breadth of the country.

The Games follow a team championship format, where medals earned by individual athletes or teams contribute to the overall tally of their respective state, Union Territory or institutions.

While Jammu and Kashmir won the overall title in the first three editions, the the Indian Army and Ladakh won the next two editions respectively.
