Anurag Thakur, India’s sports minister, declared on Thursday that the Khelo India Winter Games being held in this city will be the largest ever conducted because 1500 athletes from all over the nation will compete in 11 events over the next six days.
“Over 1500 athletes from 29 states and union territories of the nation have travelled here to compete in 11 sporting activities over the course of the next six days. The country’s largest Winter Games event to date will take place here, Thakur informed reporters at Tangmarg, on the Srinagar-Gulmarg route, 36 kilometres from Srinagar.

Thakur also took part in a game of snow cricket at Tangmarg, where he received a warm welcome in the local tradition.
The Winter Games are beginning with this snowfall at a location that is known as heaven on earth, not anywhere else. The minister expressed his gratitude to the villagers for their friendly greeting and hospitality.
According to Thakur, Khelo India is a sporting movement that organises youth games, university games, and winter games all year round.
“The Khelo India Winter Games are eagerly anticipated by the entire nation. We are now holding the Youth Games in Madhya Pradesh. Khelo India is a movement,” he remarked.
