KKR Writes To BCCI: CEO Venky Mysore Expresses Discontent

After the rule change, KKR chief Venky Mysore sent a strong email to BCCI chief operating officer Hemang Amin questioning the rationale and timing of the change. The email noted displeasure with the lack of fairness, given that new rules were being introduced while teams were waiting to play.

“Whereas these mid-season adjustments are perhaps inevitable in the circumstances, one would have hoped for greater uniformity in how such adjustments are being implemented,” Mysore said.

Rule Change Details: Extra Time Added for Rain-Affected Matches

In its latest ruling, the BCCI has now established a new regulation to allow for an additional 60 minutes for the last nine league matches to account for weather stoppages. The regulation is meant to try to ensure a result if games are impacted by weather.

What’s New:

Games can now commence as late as 9:30 PM without the overs being cut short.

Earlier, games needed to start by 8:30 PM to prevent a truncated format.

KKR’s Argument: Could Have Avoided Elimination

Mysore pointed out that had the new rule been made public a little earlier during the break of one week, it could have been implemented on the match between KKR and RCB, perhaps enabling a five-over match to be conducted.

“The May 17 weather forecast in Bengaluru was quite clear that it would rain. The game was high-risk. The extra 120 minutes now being enforced may have allowed at least a 5-over-a-side game,” Mysore noted.

KKR’s Stand on the Points Table

KKR is currently placed sixth with 12 points from 12 matches, having already lost two encounters to rain. The washout against RCB effectively ended their mathematical possibilities of making the playoffs.

KKR CEO Venky Mysore’s statement

“The washout put paid to KKR’s hopes of entering the playoffs. Such ad hoc rulings and inconsistency in enforcing them are not fitting for a tournament of this caliber,” Mysore wrote. “I am sure you would also realize why we are aggrieved.”

How the Rule Favours MI and DC

The change of rule can work in favor of teams such as the Mumbai Indians (MI) and the Delhi Capitals (DC), both of which are yet to make it to the playoffs. More rain is being predicted, especially in Mumbai. The late start may guarantee a favorable outcome even if the match begins nearer to midnight.

KKR Writes To BCCI Seeking Fairness

As KKR laments in a letter to BCCI, the scandal highlights the importance of transparent and timely enforcement of rules in professional tournaments. While the rule shift attempts to optimize match results, its selective timing creates legitimate questions about the fairness and impartiality of cricket administration.
