KL Rahul, who has been assigned the opening role in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, has excelled so far and has been India’s standout batter in the series. The right-hander delivered one of his finest performances at the Gabba, staying solid at one end while wickets kept falling at the other.

Rahul played a brilliant knock of 84 runs off 139 balls, hitting 8 fours in his inning. He was one of only two Indian batters to face over 100 balls, helping the team avoid being followed in the match.

While speaking about batting in these tough conditions, KL Rahul claimed that everyone on the team has their own plans. He stressed the importance of playing the first 15-20 overs with confidence and explained how batting becomes easier with the Kookaburra ball following that. Speaking about the press conference, Rahul explained:

“I think, see, I’m quite certain that everybody has their set plans and they’re clear with what they need to do. You also need to have a bit of luck as a top-order batter. Just a little bit that goes your way.

“If you can get through those first 10, 15 overs and get a bit of confidence, then you start feeling good and you start enjoying playing with the Kookaburra ball, with the pace and bounce here in Australia.”

KL Rahul spoke about the challenges other batters are facing, saying everyone is giving their best and that he trusts his teammates. He emphasized the importance of having a strong defense in the first 30 overs, as it becomes easier to score runs after that. He added:

If you look at all our batters, everyone enjoys playing on fast-bouncy wickets. We don’t mind it. So it’s just about getting through those first 20, 30 balls for everybody. And everyone’s trying their best to do that. It’s a long series. We’ve played three games, five innings now. So I’m sure everyone will go back and come up with their plans the next time we bat or in the next couple of games.

“I don’t think there’s anything different. The only thing you can do in the first 30 overs is to tighten up your defence. Try and respect that the first 30 overs is the bowler’s time and give them their time. Leave balls. Play as tight as possible and then really try to cash in once the ball gets older.”

KL Rahul wrapped up by saying they are confident about making a strong comeback in the second innings. He explained that sometimes plans work, and sometimes they don’t. He said:

“So that’s my plan and that’s pretty simple. And I’m sure that’s the plan. everybody. For some people, it works on a given day. For some, it doesn’t. So we’ll all come back again in the next innings and try harder.”
