Koneru Humpy Win The FIDE Women’s Grand Prix Pune Leg
Indian Grandmaster Koneru Humpy emerged victorious in the FIDE Women’s Grand Prix after a tense and thrilling final round. Both Humpy and China’s Zhu Jiner finished the tournament with the same score, seven out of nine points. However, Koneru Humpy managed to secure the win after a thrilling tiebreaker.
Her campaign at the tournament was marked by resilience and string play. She remained unbeaten throughout the tournament with zero losses. One of the highlights of her run was her crucial win at round seven against Zhu Jiner. In the final round, she faced Salimova and delivered an outstanding performance as she won a long and dramatic match. Koneru Humpy was also the only player of the FIDE Women’s Grand Prix who remained unbeaten throughout the tournament.
After all rounds, Koneru Humpy topped the points table and also overtook Tan Zhongyi of China and secured second place in the FIDE Women’s Grand Prix 2024-25 Standings. Divya Deshmukh, another rising star, finished in third place with 5.5 points, while China’s Zhu Jiner finished a close second.

The next event in the FIDE Women’s Grand Prix series is the sixth and the final leg, scheduled to take place in Grosslobmig, Austria, from 5 May to 6 May 2025. This tournament will be crucial for Koneru Humpy as she looks to extend her unbeaten streak at the next leg and win the series while Ju Wenjun, who’s at the top of the standings currently will look to maintain her lead.
