La Liga: Atletico Madrid drop points FC Barcelona’s advantage with six games in hand

Atletico Madrid stumbled again on Sunday, needing a win to stay in control of the Spanish league. Barring Atletico Madrid’s defeat against Athletic Bilbao 2-1, Luis Suarez and Joao Felix’s comeback was not enough for Diego Simeone’s team and now leasing Barcelona an opportunity to take over the lead.

Atletico Madrid could drop to second on Thursday when Barcelona plays eighth-place Granada at home. Atletico captain Koke Resurreccion said. “We will keep fighting until the end. We have five matches left and we know that we can win them.”

The Spanish top-flight La Liga title race is getting remarkably engaging and contagious to watch now, as on the other hand Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane said the title race is still not over for Real Madrid. Barcelona one game in hand depends on themselves to win the title of the season.

Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman said –

“It’s a big step towards the title. Each win is a step in the right direction. Each game is difficult.

“We reacted well to going behind and created chances. We were tiring in the final stages, but we defended well.

We know that, with six games to go, if we win all six, we’re going to be champions. But I think our opponents are going to make life difficult. We’ve still got to play Atletico.

“There’s a long way to go, but we’re going to give everything to try to win.”

Barcelona with one game advantage

In La Liga, five games in hand for Atletico Madrid, six games in hand for Barcelona, and on top of that one fixture for both the teams against each other. It would be a crucial fixture for both sides, Where Atletico could not afford to drop points to win the title.
