Legendary spinner Muralitharan says Prithvi Shaw is the Indian batsman with ‘no fear’ ahead of the tour of Sri Lanka
The series between India and Sri Lanka is going to start this Sunday. There will be six matches played which include three ODI and three T20Is. The Indian squad has full of talented and promising youngsters, most of them of who has performed well in this year’s IPL tournament. It’s a golden opportunity for the youngsters just ahead T20 World Cup. The players who perform well in this series will most probably be part of the T20I World Cup Squad.
It carries huge importance as this is the last limited-overs series India will play ahead of the marquee tournament T20I World Cup. So, all the eyes will be on the younger players and how they perform against Sri Lanka in the limited-overs series. The most awaited T 20I World Cup will be starting in October this year.
This young Indian team has legendary Rahul Dravid as their head coach and Shikhar Dhawan will be their captain who will lead them from the front. Indian team would look to get the desired result, as they would like to good performances against the host both as a team and individually. There had been many discussions about the opening combination India would go in this tour. Even though looked phenomenal as an opener for RCB in this year’s IPL. But, India’s first choice would be to go with Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw as their openers.
Former Sri Lankan cricketer Muttiah Muralitharan thinks that the ideal opening combination for India is to go with Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan. He also stressed the fact that the youngster can inflict much damage to the opposition. They have also been successful in opening pairs for Delhi Capitals. The legendary spinner is confident this opening pair will do well in this series. Shaw in particular will have a good series.
Muttiah Muralitharan said that “As for Prithvi Shaw, he is a better one-day and T20 player than a test player because the way he plays, it reminds me of someone like Sehwag. He takes a lot of risks and he puts the bowling side under pressure. If he scores, India will have a good chance of winning because he can score a huge total within a short frame of time. He’s got talent and he is fearless. He has no fear of getting out”.
The youngster Prithvi Shaw made his ODI debut in the year 2020 against New Zealand. He scored 84 runs with the best of 40. The senior player and Shikhar Dhawan on the other hand has a good record as an opener and would like to score some runs in this series. The legendary spinner feels that India should back the youngster to play in his aggressive manner, as it can help India, especially in a way tours.
Muttiah Muralitharan further said that “India should encourage him to do that because you need players to win matches. He will be very dangerous. Shikhar can go on normally. I know him very well because he was with Sunrisers and a good performer. So he can go normally and Prithvi can damage the bowling if he stays at the wicket. That’s a big advantage of India”.
