Bayer Leverkusen continued their unbeaten streak and notched their sixth win as they comfortably defeated Cologne 3-0 in the Bundesliga.

Right from the start, the hosts took control of the game, smoothly maneuvering through Cologne’s territory. However, Florian Wirtz missed two golden opportunities, and Victor Boniface lacked precision from 13 meters, as reported by Xinhua.

Leverkusen’s persistence paid off in the 22nd minute when Jonas Hofmann capitalized on a well-executed combination involving Wirtz, breaking the deadlock.

Cologne found it challenging to resist Leverkusen’s onslaught and found themselves trailing by two goals just 10 minutes later. Alejandro Grimaldo set up Jeremie Frimpong, who slotted the ball into an empty net.

Cologne’s goalkeeper, Marvin Schwabe, displayed his skills with a diving save to deny a long-range attempt from Wirtz in the 35th minute.

Cologne showed signs of life towards the end of the first half when Davie Selke and Eric Martel tested Leverkusen’s custodian, Lukas Hradecky, in quick succession.

In the second half, Schwabe had to be alert once again, making a diving save to deny a dangerous shot from Frimpong in the 54th minute.

The leaders of the Bundesliga extended their lead further when Boniface capitalized on Hofmann’s precise through ball, slotting it into the far corner in the 67th minute.

With this result, Leverkusen maintained their position at the top of the Bundesliga table, while winless Cologne descended to the bottom.

Leverkusen’s coach, Xabi Alonso, expressed satisfaction with the performance, saying, “We are satisfied with the performance. We created a lot of chances and could have scored even more. We must continue to concentrate, as we’ve only played seven matches.”

In other Bundesliga matches, Bayern Munich remained in third place with a 3-0 victory over Freiburg, courtesy of a brace from Kingsley Coman. Additionally, Eintracht Frankfurt defeated newly-promoted Heidenheim 2-0.
