Lionel Messi joined Paris Saint Germain in August 2021. Contract negotiations between Lionel Messi and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) are supposedly over. The two parties are now prepared to part ways in the summer, with the Argentine’s impending return to Barcelona.
Le Parisien reported that discussions between Messi’s team and PSG have ended. They claim that the parties’ differences over the terms of the contract led to their impending breakup.
Since Messi returned to PSG in January after winning the FIFA World Cup, the club has been in negotiations with him about staying. They haven’t made much progress, though, because they require the Argentine to lower his pay because of FFP difficulties.
The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner is reportedly being contacted by Barcelona to return to Camp Nou.
Nasser Al-Khelaifi, the president of Paris Saint-Germain, was certain that they would be able to keep the Argentine after this summer. But things didn’t go well for the Ligue 1 team, and the forward now appears to be leaving in the summer.
Joan Laporta about Lionel Messi
Lionel Messi’s potential return to Barcelona has received an encouraging update from club president Joan Laporta. Given that his contract with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) expires this summer, the Argentine has been linked with a return to the Catalan powerhouses.
FC Barcelona President, Joan Laporta recently was asked by an exciting fan about the Argentine star’s possible return to the Blaugrana. Laporta gave the affirmation and said “Yes”.
The seven-time Ballon D’or winner had won many accolades during his almost two-decade-long stay at FC Barcelona.
Lionel Messi’s father and Barcelona president Joan Laporta met in March of this year, and Laporta said that they discussed Messi’s predicament at PSG.
He was keen to point out that the main topic of the talk was a memorial game at Camp Nou.
Whether Messi will return to Barcelona this summer is still up in the air. Inter Miami and a few Saudi Arabian teams have also been mentioned as potential destinations for the 2022 FIFA World Cup victor. The Argentine, though, apparently wants to keep competing in Europe.
