PSG manager Luis Enrique has turned the tables on critics with his witty response to being mocked as France’s Ligue 1 as “farmer’s league.” After guiding his team to the Champions League final, defeating four top Premier League sides along the way.
Luis Enrique Shuts Down PSG Critics

The term “farmer’s league” was used by rival fans to belittle Ligue 1 to highlight the lack of competitiveness and quality as compared to other European leagues. However, after PSG’s impressive run after knocking out Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal, and Aston Villa, Luis Enrique responded to the critics with humour. He said, “We are the league of farmers, no? The league of farmers? It’s nice, though. Now, we are enjoying the results and the compliments from all over. We are a young team. The mentality, the character, and how we play football: I need to congratulate my players for being great.”
We Were One Of The Best Teams… Said Luis Enrique
Luis Enrique also dismissed the talk of Arsenal being the “better team” and said, “Over the two legs, we scored more goals than they did, and in football, it’s the most important thing. But Arsenal played a great game, and we suffered a lot.”

PSG’s journey to the final was anything but easy. They had a shaky start in the group stage and bounced back with key wins, including a dramatic comeback against Manchester City. Their solid defence and standout performances, especially from goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, were crucial to their success.
Reflecting on the struggle, Luis Enrique said, “The fact that we had such a difficult set of fixtures in the league phase helped the team improve and grow. The statistics showed we were one of the best teams in Europe, and when we started to be more clinical, in a short competition, I think we have shown that we deserve to be in the final. It is the match in which we suffered the most (in the Champions League), but we deserve to get to the final.”
