Barcelona has completed the loan signing of Luuk de Jong from Sevilla. He is the sixth signing of the cash-stricken Spanish giants this Summer.

He is the fourth forward to join the club this summer. Memphis Depay, Yusuf Demir, and Kun Aguero being the other three players.

With Aguero injured until at least November, and Griezmann leaving the club, Barcelona in dire need of a focal point up front has completed the loan signing of Luuk de Jong.

Barcelona will pay them forward’s salary this season and will have an option to buy the player at the end of this season.

Barcelona has now let go of two of their best players owing to the economical situation. The departure of Griezmann particularly has come as a huge shock. The Frenchman was believed to be staying at the club this season. Instead, he has been sent out on loan to a direct title rival in Atletico Madrid.

Barcelona’s forward options right now look very thin with the departure of Griezmann. The likes of Dembele and Aguero have long-term injuries. Ansu Fati has just recovered from a serious injury. Meanwhile, Danish international Martin Braithwaite was subbed off last weekend against Getafe with discomfort in his knee.

Barcelona squares off against Bayern on the 14th of September at Camp Nou in their UEFA Champions League group stage opener.

Luuk de Jong’s career

Luuk de Jong has played for Twente, Borussia Mönchengladbach, PSV Eindhoven, and Sevilla. His honors include four Eredivisie titles ( once with Twente and thrice with PSV ), the Dutch cup once with Twente. The 31-year-old played a crucial role in Sevilla’s 2019-20 Europa League win. De Jong has scored 19 goals in 94 appearances for Sevilla.
