Mac McClung has had a good year so far in 2023. The dual-purpose player for the Delaware Blue Coats made his NBA debut with the Philadelphia 76ers following the All-Star break. He also won the G-League title and the 2023 NBA Dunk Contest championship.
Not a bad spring for the 6-foot-2 guard who competed in college for Texas Tech and Georgetown. McClung has 1.2 million Instagram followers and has been wowing fans with his springiness and dunk skills for years. According to Front Office Sports, his victory in this year’s dunk competition increased ticket sales for the Blue Coats’ second half of the season.
In his second season in the G-League, McClung averaged 19.8 points per game while shooting 57.4 percent from the field and 47.4 percent from 3-point range. With sponsorships from companies like AT&T, Raising Cane’s, the Dungeons & Dragons: Honour Among Thieves film, and Puma, the Gate City, Virginia native in 2023 is seeing the fruits of his labour and is incredibly appreciative of the opportunities he’s been given.

“Do I believe I belong in the NBA? Yes, without a doubt,” McClung said in a May interview with For The Win. “I feel like I took advantage of my opportunities to the fullest extent possible, going by the numbers, our success (we won the championship).” I am aware that I play in the NBA. God’s timing is everything, and I should make the most of the opportunities I do have.
McClung is currently preparing for the upcoming season by creating new dunks and teaming up with AT&T for their Dunk Pool during the playoffs, which places $5,000 in a bucket for each dunk in the Eastern and Western Conference Finals. It’s the perfect union.
“The dunk tank… I mean, it’s obvious that I love dunking,” McClung said with a chuckle. “They’re going to contribute five Gs to the dunk pool for every dunk in the Conference Finals. No matter which team we support, we all enjoy watching dunks, so I find that to be exciting.
After Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets swept the Los Angeles Lakers in four games, McClung’s prediction of Denver winning the NBA championship is looking good.
