3 Min Read

Malaysia has produced some of the best shuttlers in the world medal winners at BWF World Championships. Badminton has been the undisputed racket sport in Malaysia for decades.

Lee Chong Wei, the badminton legend from the country, had been a source of inspiration for several aspiring youngsters.

Lee was the world’s top-ranked player for six and a half years- including a record four consecutive years-  frequently outdoing  players from Malaysia’s arch-rival Indonesia and inspiring a badminton boom.

However, Lee’s retirement in 2019 after recovering from nose cancer, has left a void. Interest waned and courts once bustling with hopefuls emptied out.

But, with the BWF World Championships, Malaysia is trying to renew its vigor. With a formidable contingent in Paris, the country is on its way to revive its past glory.
