Malaysia Open 2021 postponed; another blow to Srikanth and Saina’s Olympic hopes

The Super 750 tournament was one of the last two qualifying tournaments along with the Singapore open before the Tokyo 2021 Olympics.

After a lot of questions over the conduction in the ongoing pandemic, Malaysia Open 2021 finally stands canceled. The Super 750 tournament was one of the last two qualifying tournaments along with the Singapore open before the Tokyo 2021 Olympics.

The Super 750 Malaysia Open was to be held in Kuala Lumpur from May 25 to 30. The Badminton World Federation (BWF) also confirmed the tournament will not be played in the Olympics qualification phase.

All attempts were made by the organizers and BWF to provide a safe tournament environment for all participants, but the recent surge in cases left no choice but to postpone the tournament,” Badminton World Federation said in a statement.

With this, the Olympic dreams of Srikanth and Saina have received a massive blow as it is very unlikely that the duo will get to travel to Singapore for the next tournament amid the pandemic. After the postponement of the India Open before, both the players were completely reliant on these remaining two events to gain ranking points but now the route seems hazy.
