Manchester City dominates Chelsea at Stamford Bridge
Although only a single goal separated the two sides, City dominated the entire game having the ball majority of the time.
Manchester City beat Chelsea 1-0 thanks to a second-half goal from Gabriel Jesus.
Chelsea vs Manchester City was the match that was mos awaited in the league this season.
The two sides faced each other in the UEFA Champions League final in May where Tuchel’s Chelsea outclassed favorites Manchester City. Furthermore, Tuchel faced Guardiola three times last season and came out on top every single time. Therefore, today’s match had that extra bit of flair to it with the added rivalry of Tuchel and Guardiola. And Manchester City did not let their coach down.
Chelsea had not lost a game in the Premier League up until today. Meanwhile, City lost their only game so far this season in the opening weekend game against Spurs.
From the get-go, City was aggressive in pressing high up the pitch. They did not allow Chelsea the space required to play the ball out from the back.
At the end of the first half, City had 6 attempts on goal although none of them was on target.
It was clear that City missed a recognized number 9 in the team as they found it hard to find a player inside the box. Chelsea meanwhile had just 1 shot on goal in the first half.
In the 53rd minute of the game, Gabriel Jesus’ strike deflected off Jorginho and past Edouard Mendy for the only goal of the game.
A few moments later, Chelsea had a Romelu Lukaku goal chalked off for off-side. The Belgian striker was left isolated all game as he received no service. Even the introduction of Havertz and Ruben Loftus Cheek was not enough for Chelsea to steal a point from the game.
It was ecstasy for Guardiola’s Manchester City and a reality check for Tuchel’s Chelsea.
