Manchester City Fined £1M By Premier League

Manchester City have been fined over £1m by the Premier League after repeated delays in kicking-off or restarting matches late last season.

In the 2024-25 season, nine of City’s matches l started or restarted late. The offences came between October and February with The longest delay was two minutes and 24 seconds before the resumption of the Manchester derby at Old Trafford in December.

Manchester City had accepted and apologised for the breaches. They have 14 days to pay the fines totalling £1.08m.

A Premier League statement said: “Rules relating to kick-offs and restarts help ensure the organisation of the competition is set at the highest possible professional standard and provides certainty to fans and participating clubs.

“It also ensures the broadcast of every Premier League match is kept to schedule.”

The fines were imposed relating to City’s home games against Southampton, Tottenham Hotspur, Nottingham Forest, Manchester United, West Ham United and Newcastle United and their away fixtures against Crystal Palace, Aston Villa and Ipswich Town. 

This is not the first instance in which the Etihad had been fined for slow starts and restarts. Last season the club were fined £2.09m for delaying 22 matches.
