Manchester City wins EFL cup 2021
The search for a trophy continues for Tottenham Hotspurs as they get another loss in a final
Manchester City claims the EFL cup again by defeating the London side Tottenham Hotspurs in the final at Wembley. The French center-back scored the only goal of the match in the 82nd minute. The city had 63% of possession and totally controlled the game and turned it in their favor.
Manchester City totally dominated the game with the ball as they always do, whereas the Spurs looked clumsy under the new manager Ryan Mason. Spurs struggled throughout the game and only managed to hit 1 shot on target and a total 2 shots on the goal. The main man for Spurs Harry Kane lost his touch in the whole game and his efforts were not enough to go past the City’s defense.
This is the fourth consecutive season when the blue side of Manchester has lifted the EFL Cup. Pep Guardiola has now won 4 EFL Cups with City in 2018,2019,2020 and in 2021. He is now the 4th manager to achieve the feat. This is the 9th trophy for City under the Spaniard Manager. City’s Captain Fernandinho is the only player who has won the cup six times.
Spurs have now lost another final and their search for a trophy continues. Since the turn of the century, Tottenham has ended as runners-up in five of their six finals across all competitions, failing to score in each of their last four finals (League Cup x3, Champions League).
Manchester City can now in 3 trophies this season as they are very close to the Premier League and in the Semifinal of Champions League. They will be facing PSG on Wednesday in the first leg of the CL semi-final. This is the first time in recent years that City has managed to qualify for the Semis of Champions League.
