Manchester United beat West Ham

United beat West Ham 2-1 at the London Stadium. Cristiano Ronaldo and Jesse Lingard scored the goals for Manchester United. Meanwhile, David De Gea saved a late stoppage-time penalty to secure the three points.

Manchester United won their fourth game of the season and is in second place in the league. The last season runners-up are still unbeaten in the league as they dropped points only at Southampton away from home.

First Half

It looked like United will lose points at the London stadium midway through the first half as Said Benrahma opened the scoring for the home side. The winger’s shot outside the box took a heavy deflection and went past a helpless De Gea.

However, Cristiano Ronaldo leveled the scoring in the 35th minute. It was Ronaldo’s 4th goal in 3 games for United.

Second Half

Jesse Lingard made up for the mistake he made in the mid-week game against Young Boys as he scored what would be the winning goal for Manchester United. The 28-year-old came on as a substitute in the game. Lingard picked the ball in the edge of the penalty area drove into the box and curled into the top corner. The midfielder did not celebrate in his usual manner as a mark of respect for his previous club.

However, the match was not over yet. West Ham United was awarded a penalty in the stoppage time as Luke Shaw made a handball. Luke Shaw unnaturally extended his arm to stop the cross. As a result, the event was subject to a VAR check and the referee gave the penalty.

West Ham manager David Moyes substituted Mark Noble in to take the penalty. However, the captain missed the penalty as David De Gea produced an astounding save to give United the victory.

As a result, Manchester United is in second place in the league and is still undefeated. Meanwhile, West Ham lost their first game of the season.
