Olympian Ankita Dhyani clinched the victory in the women’s 3000m steeplechase event at the Mangrum Invitational 2025 athletics meet held in California, USA, on Friday.
The Mangrum Invitational is an annual competition in track and field athletics hosted in late March by Cal State San Marcos (CSUSM) at the Mangrum Track and Field in San Marcos, California.
Ankita clocked 9:44.05s breaching the AFI’s Asian Athletics Championships 2025 qualifying mark of 9:48.48s for the event. This was also a new personal best for Ankita who represented India at Paris Olympics 2024.
The middle-distance runner shed almost nine seconds from her previous personal best of 9:53.63s, set at the National Games 2025.
The Indian runner had qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympics in the women’s 5000m but decided to switch to the 3000m steeplechase event late last year.
The Mangrum Invitational was just her third competition in the 3000m steeplechase event and second this year after clinching gold in the National Games 2025.
Interestingly, she had also won at the Indian Open U23 Athletics Competition 2024 in Patna last September, which was the maiden 3000m steeplechase race of her career.
Sophie McManus of United States finished second at the Mangrum Invitational 2025 meet with a time of 10:50.93s, followed by compatriot Hannah Chau who came in third after clocking 10:58.98.
