Fast-bowler Matt Henry prepares to rejoin the New Zealand T20 squad for the five-match series against Pakistan, marking his return after a two-month absence due to a hamstring injury during the ICC Cricket World Cup in India.

Captain Kane Williamson and opening batter Devon Conway make their comebacks after periods of rest post the Bangladesh Test tour. However, Williamson will miss the third T20I in Dunedin due to knee injury management, with Josh Clarkson called in as cover and Mitchell Santner set to lead in his absence.

Coach Gary Stead highlighted the significance of the Pakistan series, emphasizing the importance of experienced players like Matt Henry, Kane Williamson, and Lockie Ferguson, who returns following an Achilles injury.

“With just three T20I series left before the T20 World Cup, all matches are vitally important for our preparation,” said Stead.

Ferguson is set to make his comeback through the Auckland Aces, playing three Super Smash games before joining the Blackcaps squad for the latter part of the Pakistan series. Meanwhile, Ben Sears secures a spot for the initial two games after impressing in the Bangladesh series.

However, Kyle Jamieson’s absence continues due to a hamstring injury, and Trent Boult and Jimmy Neesham are unavailable due to overseas T20 commitments.

The New Zealand T20 squad is set to assemble in Auckland on January 9, gearing up for the series starting on January 12.
