Scotland have officially accepted an invitation from the cricket governing body, the International Cricket Council (ICC), to participate in the Men’s T20 world cup tournament scheduled to take place in 2026 in India and Sri Lanka. News of Scotland’s acceptance was made by Cricket Scotland.
Scotland Replace Bangladesh in Group C
It has been confirmed by the ICC that Scotland will replace Bangladesh in the tournament. As a result of the withdrawal of Bangladesh from the tournament, the entire structure will remain intact with the inclusion of Scotland. The inclusion of Scotland will give an opportunity to the Scottish cricket team to participate in the highest form of T20 cricket.
Cricket Scotland Reacts to ICC Invitation
Cricket Scotland Chief Executive Trudy Lindblade showed her gratitude towards the invitation and emphasized the importance of the opportunity for Scottish cricket.
Her statement was that they were formally contacted by Cricket Scotland in the morning to check if they would be available to participate with their men’s side. The invitation was accepted readily. The opportunity was exciting and unique for them, explained Lindblade, while adding that it was because of unforeseen circumstances that it came up.
Team Preparations Already Underway
The Scottish cricket team has been getting ready for the upcoming international tours that the team is expected to attend. However, the biggest piece of information here is that the Scottish cricket team is going to India very shortly and plans to acclimatise itself before the Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.

The Cricket Scotland Chairman, Mr. Wilf Walsh, has made it clear that he was personally informed of the invitation by the Chairman of the ICC, Mr. Jay Shah, that Scotland will be participating in the tournament. Mr. Walsh has welcomed the invitation, accepting it on behalf of the players, who he made it very clear were fully prepared to participate in the tournament.
