Mirra Andreeva stormed into the Roland Garros 2026 semifinal after she swept past Sorana Cirstea 6-0, 6-3. The eighth-seeded Russian needed just over an hour on Court Philippe-Chatrier to reach the Roland Garros last four for the second time in her career.
Andreeva’s impressive show ended Cirstea’s inspiring run in Paris. The 36-year-old Romanian, who is set to retire at the end of the season, had enjoyed her best French Open campaign in 17 years, reaching the quarterfinals for the first time since 2009.
“I knew that this match wouldn’t be easy and I’d have to put 200 percent of my focus to win,” Andreeva said “I’m super happy I was able to do it and tried to play aggressive throughout the whole match.”
Mirra Andreeva to face Marta Kostyuk in Roland Garros semifinal
The Russian teenager will next face the winner of the all-Ukrainian quarterfinal between Elina Svitolina and Marta Kostyuk as she bids for a place in the Roland Garros final.
Marta Kostyuk booked a blockbuster French Open semifinal showdown with Mirra Andreeva. The 23-year-old held firm after surrendering the second set, regrouping to seal a 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 victory in the first all-Ukrainian women’s Grand Slam quarterfinal of the Open Era.
With the win, Kostyuk stretched her unbeaten run on clay to 17 matches and advanced to the semifinals of a Grand Slam for the first time in her career. She will now face eighth seed Mirra Andreeva, with a place in the Roland Garros final on the line.
“I’m very happy I found a way. It was very difficult in the first two sets,” said Kostyuk “We had another difficult night in Ukraine, especially in Kyiv where so many people died, so I want to give this match to Ukraine,” said Kostyuk.
For Elina Svitolina, it was another painful exit in the French Open quarterfinals. The 31-year-old suffered her sixth defeat at the last-eight stage in Paris, leaving Roland Garros as the only Grand Slam where she has yet to break through to the semifinals.
