In an early morning media address, the 31-year-old Lanning announced her retirement, expressing gratitude to Cricket Australia for her remarkable journey.

Mithali Raj extended her congratulations to Meg, acknowledging her legendary achievements in women’s cricket and Australian cricket overall. Raj commended Lanning’s unwavering dedication and commitment to the game and expressed sadness at the departure of such a prominent figure from international cricket. Despite bidding adieu to international cricket, Meg Lanning will continue to play for Melbourne Stars in the WBBL, represent Victoria in the WNCL, and feature for Delhi Capitals in the WPL.

Lanning’s final appearance for Australia occurred as she led them to another Women’s T20 World Cup title in South Africa in February of this year. Her return to the game in January was followed by missing the Women’s Ashes due to an undisclosed medical issue.
