Mohammed Siraj has climbed to a career-best 15th place in the latest ICC Test rankings after his brilliant performance in the fifth and final Test against England at The Oval.
The Indian pacer jumped 12 spots thanks to his nine wickets in the match, which included a fantastic five-wicket haul, as India pulled off a thrilling six-run win to level the series 2-2.
On the final day, with England needing just 35 runs and four wickets in hand, a fired-up Siraj delivered a match-winning spell. He took three crucial wickets, including the last one of Gus Atkinson, to seal a memorable victory. It was no surprise that he was named ‘Player of the Match’.
This is the highest Siraj has ever been in the Test rankings, his previous best was 16th, achieved in January last year.
India’s pace ace Jasprit Bumrah, who featured in three Tests to manage his workload, continues to hold the top spot with 889 points.
Prasidh Krishna also achieved his career-best ranking, moving up to 59th. He and Siraj became only the second Indian bowling pair to take four or more wickets each in both innings of a Test, a feat last achieved by legendary spinners Bishan Bedi and Erapalli Prasanna against Australia in Delhi back in 1969.
In batting, Yashasvi Jaiswal has re-entered the top five after scoring his second century of the series at The Oval. He’s now at 792 points, moving up three spots. Rishabh Pant is the only other Indian batter in the top 10, but he slipped to eighth after missing the final Test due to a foot injury.
For England, Joe Root strengthened his hold on the No. 1 batting spot with his third century in as many matches, while Harry Brook’s quickfire 111 off 98 balls pushed him back into second place.
In the bowling charts, England’s Gus Atkinson and Josh Tongue also made big gains after taking eight wickets each in the match. Atkinson entered the top 10 for the first time, while Tongue rose 14 places to 46th.
