Morocco, Portugal, and Spain to Co-host FIFA World Cup 2030 Spanning Three Continents

Morocco, Portugal, and Spain join forces to co-host FIFA World Cup 2030 across three continents, celebrating 100 years of the tournament.

The FIFA World Cup 2030 is all set to make history with a joint hosting by Morocco, Portugal, and Spain, spanning three continents. To mark the 100th anniversary of the event, FIFA has revealed that three other South American nations will also participate in organizing matches.

During a videoconference held in Zurich, Switzerland, the FIFA Council officially endorsed the single bid presented by Morocco, Portugal, and Spain. If this consortium successfully completes the bidding process in 2024, they will automatically qualify as hosts for the tournament, as reported by Xinhua.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino emphasized, “The FIFA Council also agreed unanimously that the only bid to host the FIFA World Cup 2030 will be the joint bid of Morocco, Portugal, and Spain. In 2030, we will have a unique global footprint, with matches taking place on three continents – Africa, Europe, and South America. Six countries – Argentina, Morocco, Paraguay, Portugal, Spain, and Uruguay – will come together to welcome the world while celebrating the beautiful game, the centenary, and the FIFA World Cup.”

As part of the centenary celebrations, a special ceremony will be held in Montevideo, Uruguay, the city where the inaugural FIFA World Cup was held in 1930. Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay will each organize one match of the FIFA World Cup 2030.

FIFA also made the decision to run the bidding processes for both the 2030 and 2034 editions concurrently. Member associations from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) have been invited to bid for the 2034 edition.

Additionally, the FIFA Council confirmed that the inaugural FIFA Futsal Women’s World Cup will take place in 2025, featuring 16 participating teams.
