Napoli thrashes Lazio in a goal-fest of a match

Napoli wins 5-2 against Lazio at home. Insigne scores a brace.

Napoli faced Lazio at their home in a search of a win. Both the teams were in great form as the former had won 5 out of their last 7 matches. Lazio was also on a streak of 5 unbeaten games. The game started with a controversial decision as Lazzari was fouled by Hysaj in the penalty area but he was denied of it. IIn fact the referee went back to check the foul and gave Napoli a penalty instead for a foul on Manolas by Savic which was overlooked by him a couple of minutes ago.

Napoli was awarded a penalty, Insigne stepped up and gave his team an early lead. Napoli kept on pressing and only after 5 minutes Matteo Politano cut inside in the box went for the near post and scored. Pepe Reina failed again to stop the ball from going into the net. The first half ended with Napoli scoring twice and Roma nil.

At the 53rd minute, Insigne started a counterattack and he ran almost 60 yards. He passed the ball to Hysaj who provided the ball back to the Italian who hit a beautiful outside-the-box goal. Another goal came in for the home side at 65 minutes. Napoli’s record goalscorer Mertens got on the scoresheet with an absolute peach of a goal.

65 minutes in the game and Lazio was 4 goals down. Lazio though fought back with a 70th minute Ciro Immobile’s goal and a 74th Milinkovic-Savic’s free-kick. Victor Osimhen came as a substitute scored the last and the 5th goal for Napoli and it was all over for Lazio. Napoli won against Lazio with the final scoresheet reading 5-2. Napoli won 6 out of their last 8 matches and is still in the hope of getting into the Champions League spot.
