NBA: Team that have been swept least in the Playoffs

3 Min Read

Being swept by your opponents in the NBA Playoffs is pretty disappointing for any NBA team. Over the years many NBA teams have been swept through in the playoffs. The latest clean sweep was done by the Denver Nuggets over Los Angeles Lakers. Denver Nuggets playing at home won the first two games and then further defeated the Lakers at their home in the next two games to complete a 4-0 sweep. This is one of the many sweeps in NBA playoffs history. The league has seen many changes throughout its history. There were times when two or three straight victories were enough to register a sweep, however now with a 7-game series teams need to win four straight games to sweep their opponents. Here is a look at the team which has only been swept once throughout the NBA playoffs history.

New Orleans Pelicans

New Orleans Pelicans have a history of just over two decades in the NBA. Their short history helps their cause in being the only team to be clean-swept only once. Other teams have been swept many times which makes the Pelicans record even more astonishing. It is quite challenging to avoid a sweep, especially in the opening round. It is hardly surprising that several of the eight-seeded teams were swept by the teams that went on to win the championship.

The New Orleans Hornets were the team’s initial name when the Pelicans were created in 2002. While temporarily residing in Oklahoma, they were also known as the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets. The Pelicans have qualified for the playoffs nine times in their history. They’ve never made it past the second round, and the Golden State Warriors swept them in their worst postseason performance.

In the opening round of the 2015 NBA Playoffs, the two teams faced a battle, but the Warriors prevailed in all four games. The Dubs won by an average of eight points per game, despite the fact that this was a sweep. In Game 3, the Pelicans had a chance to prevent the sweep, but they lost it by four points in overtime.

Being swept in the NBA playoffs is a disappointing experience for any team. However, it is important to remember that even the best teams can be swept on occasion.
