Norway’s Jakob Ingebrigtsen set a new world record in 1500m distance at the Meeting Hauts-de-France Pas-de-Calais Trophée EDF in Lievin, northern France on Thursday (13 February).

The 24-year-old clocked 3:45.14 at the indoor meet surpassing American Yared Nuguse’s world record (3:46.63) in the indoor mile from last Saturday (8 February)’s Millrose Games in New York.

Ingebrigsten achieved the World Record  in Lievin with ease, winning by over seven seconds. He was guided by pacemaker and world record lights on the side of the track, which he broke away from in the final 200 metres of a thrilling showing.

With his 3:29.63, he bettered his personal best of 3:30.60 from this same athletics meet in 2022.

Jakob Ingebrigtsen is the first athlete since John Landy in 1954 to set world records for the mile and 1,500m in the same race.

“It feels amazing,” said the two-time Olympic gold medallist, according to World Athletics. “This is what happens in Lievin. I’m a very happy man. You have to be focused for the whole race. It’s tough, but it’s worth it.”
