Novak Djokovic has taken a big decision ahead of the US Open- the final grand slam of the year. The Serb has decided to withdraw from the upcoming Cincinnati Open which is scheduled to take place prior to the grand slam.
The main draw of the 2025 edition of Cincinnati Open was scheduled to take place from August 7 with the final taking place on August 18, Monday.
Djokovic’s decision came just two days ahead of the main draw ceremony of the tournament.
This is for the second straight year that Djokovic has pulled out of the tournament in Cincinnati. Last year, he had skipped the tournament due to injury, but now he has decided to sit out due to non medical reasons.
Why Novak Djokovic Won’t Play at Cincinnati Open 2025?
Djokovic’s decision to give Cincinnati Open a miss has come by surprise to many. Because the tournament serves as a warm-up to the US Open. However, the 24-time Grand Slam champion has opted to rest up more having sustained a hip and groin injury during the semi-final match at Wimbledon.
The 38-year-old lost the Wimbledon semi-final match against eventual champion Jannik Sinner. Since then, the Serb hasn’t appeared in competitive tennis. He did not play the DC Open, followed by withdrawing from the Canadian Open in Toronto. And now he has decided to skip the Cincinnati Open.
Djokovic is eyeing for a record-equalling 25th grand slam title and it seems he wants to give his body enough rest ahead of the big assignment ahead.

When will Novak Djokovic be seen next?
Djokovic will next be seen in the mixed doubles event of the US Open. He has been paired alongside Olga Danilovic for the competition. The event will take placeon Tuesday, August 19, and Wednesday, August 20, at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, with $1 million in prize money being awarded to the winning team.
