England after a loss against New Zealand won their second game against Bangladesh. The defending champions defeated Bangladesh by 137 runs. Here is a recap of the first innings.

Topley puts a dent in the Bangladeshi chase

Litton Das opening the innings started with a hat-trick of fours in the very first over from Chris Woakes. Reece Topley making a return in this game took the second new ball from the other end. The left-arm pacer took two wickets in two balls and dismissed Tanzid Hasan and Najmul Hossain Shanto. England lost a review in the fourth over while challenging a lbw call against Litton. Topley then took his third wicket of the innings dismissing the Bangladeshi captain, Shakib Al Hasan in the sixth over. Woakes conceded 15 runs in the next over as Litton smashed two boundaries. Despite going for runs, Woakes continued his spell and dismissed Mehidy Hasan Miraz with a lovely outswinger in his 5th over. Bangladesh scored 57 runs in the powerplay but it was England’s powerplay as they took four wickets.

Litton completed his half-century in just 38 balls in the 11th over. Mark Wood was brought into the attack as runs dried up for Bangladesh. The Tigers only scored 31 runs in seven overs from 12-18. Adil Rashid was brought into the attack in the 20th over. Litton smashed a six as the English leg-spinner conceded 10 runs in his first over. From the other end, Woakes was reintroduced in the attack and dismissed the half-centurion, Litton on the sixth ball of his new spell. Litton scored 76 runs in 66 balls hitting seven fours and two sixes. 

English bowlers take control of the innings

The English bowlers controlled the 21-35 over phase conceding just 53 runs and picking up the wicket of Mushfiqur Rahim in the 31st over. Reece Topley was the man who dismissed the Bangladeshi wicketkeeper to pick up his fourth of the match. Rahim scored 51 runs in 64 balls hitting four fours. Liam Livingstone was introduced in the attack in the 40th over and took a wicket off his first ball. Livingstone dismissed Towhid Hridoy. Hridoy scored 39 runs in 61 balls hitting two fours. Adil Rashid dismissed Mahedi Hasan from the other end to dismiss Bangladesh’s 8th wicket. Mark Wood dismissed Shoriful Islam to pick up the ninth wicket of the innings. Shoriful and Mustafizur scored some crucial runs to decrease the margin of the loss.
