“Pant has the effect of Sehwag or Gilchrist on rivals”: Dinesh Karthik on Rishabh Pant
Karthik heaped praises for the explosive Rishabh Pant. Karthik stated attacking batting style of Pant has the same effect that of Virender Sehwag and Adam Gilchrist.

Indian wicket-keeper batsman and Tamil Nadu Cricket Team’s captain, Dinesh Karthik draws similarities between Rishabh Pant and Virender Sehwag or Adam Gilchrist. Karthik feels that Pant has the same effect as that of Virender Sehwag or Adam Gilchrist on opposition teams.
In a career spanning over 17 years, Karthik has done it all for India, be it T20I’s, Tests, World Cup or Champions Trophy. Based on his vast experience of international and domestic cricket, Karthik recently analyzed limited-overs matches between India and England for Sky Sports.
Karthik while talking to the Times of India in an interview, expressed his views about Indian wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant.
“He lends flexibility to the team and the management has the opportunity to play the extra batsman or the bowler as per requirement. And what is most important is the way he instills fear in the mind of opposition. Pant has the effect that Virender Sehwag or Adam Gilchrist used to have on rivals.” Karthik said.
Pant has been in excellent form. Pant scored 274 runs at an average of little over 68 against Australia in the Test series Down Under, 2020-21. Pant’s performance against England at home earlier this year in February and March – 270 runs averaging 54. Pant lead Delhi Capitals to the top of the points table of IPL 2021 before being suspended mid-way.
Dinesh Karthik on his India comeback
Dinesh Karthik has expressed his wish of playing for India in the T20 World Cups, Karthik looks determined. Karthik believes that age is not that important factor as skills and fitness are, to make a comeback in the national set-up.
Dinesh Karthik has his crucial IPL knocks and match finishing abilities to showcase whose prime example was the Nidahas Trophy final. India needed 34 off 12 balls. Dinesh Karthik scored 22 runs off Rubel Hossain – 19th over of Nidahas Trophy Final and took India over the line.
In an interview with Cricket Next, Tamil Nadu-born, former Kolkata Knight Rider skipper stated that he is doing everything he can to be a part of the Indian team.
“What they want to see is not the age but how to fit you are. If you can get through the fitness tests, it means you are ready to play for the country. I aim to play for the country in the T20 World Cups. There are back-to-back T20 World Cups, this year and the next year, and I am doing everything I can to be a part of that.
“I know I have done well in the past and even when I got dropped from the team after the World Cup, I thought I had done phenomenally well for India in T20s up till then, but because the World Cup did not go well, I got chucked out of the T20 as well,” Karthik added.
