Paris Olympics 2024: Seine River Pollution Is Causing The Men’s Triathlon To Be Postponed
The Paris Olympics have just started but there was a big problem: the Seine River is dirty! This has caused a mess for the Olympic swimmers.
The men who were supposed to swim as part of the triathlon had to stop practising twice last week and once on Monday because the water was too disgusting. And to make things worse heavy rain during the opening ceremony made the river even dirtier. So, the triathlon had to be moved from today to Tuesday.
The organizers are hoping to have the men’s race on Wednesday but they are not sure yet. The women will also try to swim on Wednesday, but they will check the water first to make sure it is safe.
It’s not looking good for the next few days either as there might be storms. So the organizers have to be really flexible about when the races happen.
For over a hundred years people have not been allowed to swim in the Seine because it has been so dirty. But the city of Paris spent a lot of money to clean it up for the Olympics. The mayor even went for a swim to show everyone it was okay.

But it turns out the river is not as clean as they hoped. Tests showed that the water had too many germs in it even though it got better after a while. Now everyone is worried about the swimmers’ health and if the Olympics can go on as planned.
