Patna Pirates Release Coach Randeep Dalal After PKL 12

3 Min Read

Randeep Dalal, who guided Patna Pirates, to a remarkable campaign in the Pro Kabaddi League 12 (PKL 12) has been released from the team. The franchise has issued no specific communication as to why they have parted ways with the coach.

Dalal’s exit comes after Patna Pirates main coach Anup Kumar was released from the team right after the conclusion of PKL.

One of the reasons for Kumar’s removal could be his sub-par performance as a coach. Pirates had roped in him ahead of the Season 12. Under his guidance, the team won only 2 out of the 9 matches and were placed at the bottom of the table with just three wins in 13 matches.

Why the release of Randeep Dalal comes as a surprise?

Patna Pirates were at the bottom of the table midway through the season. They had captured just three wins in 13 matches of the PKL 12. This is when Kumar left the team citing personal reasons and the reign was handed over to Dalal.

Under the leadership of Dalal, the Pirates made a strong comeback, winning five consecutive games to qualify for the top 8.

Their strong going carried into the knockouts, where they secured three victories on the trot, before eventually losing to the Telugu Titans in Eliminator 3.

Despite Randeep’s brilliant stint, the Patna Pirates decided to release him, leaving the fans disappointed.

While the reason for his exit hasn’t been revealed, it seems it is a part of the management’s preparations to rebuild the squad and explore more options who could take up the coaching responsibilities.

Only one head coach had remained with Patna Pirates since Season 9. After a great campaign in PKL 11, where the team reached the finals but unfortunately lost, the Pirates released their head coach Narender Redhu right after the final. Redhu later joined the Jaipur Pink Panthers as their head coach.
