Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is brimming with anticipation and joy as his team prepares to embark on their quest for FIFA Club World Cup success. After securing a treble win, their spot in this prestigious tournament came following a triumph over Inter Milan in the Champions League final.

The journey commences with a thrilling semi-final against Japan’s Urawa Red Diamonds, victors of the 2022 AFC Champions League. Guardiola, having clinched the title with Barcelona and Bayern Munich previously, relishes this chance to guide City into this global competition.

“We love to go to play in the FIFA Club World Cup. I am very pleased and excited to go there to try to win it, of course. It’s nice (the possibility of being world champions). It’s a goal we could not have imagined to be there, but we are there,” Guardiola expressed his enthusiasm.

Flying out to Saudi Arabia straight from their Premier League clash with Crystal Palace, City eyes their first-ever appearance in the Club World Cup. Additionally, they aim to etch their name in English football history by becoming the first team to seize the quintet of league, FA Cup, Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup titles.

Despite a frustrating draw in the Premier League, Guardiola believes this tournament could reignite their winning momentum. “To play this tournament you need to be there and fly there, and we will see the environment, then play Urawa and try get to the final. It’s nice,” he added optimistically.

Their semi-final opponents, Urawa Red Diamonds, secured their place in the final four by defeating Leon, the Mexican team crowned with their first CONCACAF Champions Cup title in June.

As the Club World Cup unfolds, Manchester City remains determined to make their mark, seeking to add another remarkable feat to their already impressive 2023 accolades under Guardiola’s reign.
