Chelsea Defeat Champions Liverpool: Stamford Bridge Is Cold Again As Palmer Scores For 1st Time Since January

4 Min Read

Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea have beaten the Premier league winners, Liverpool by 3-1 and the race for the Champions league spots gets intense as they climb to 5th position on the table.

The European spots have garnered more attention than the winners this season, Liverpool looked like the outright champions from the 1st half of the season but the Champions league spots have become a point of hot news.

5 teams from the Premier league will qualify for the UEFA Champions league

As this year, 5 teams from the Premier league will qualify for the UEFA Champions league, the competition for the spots has reached another level. As, 3rd placed, Manchester City till 7th placed Aston Villa, all have a chance to do the feat and all teams are ready to give their all.

Chelsea have also taken a big step in the right direction, Enzo Maresca would be happy that Liverpool won the PL before this match, as the Liverpool team still looked hungover from the win and looked okay to play second fiddle to Chelsea.

Enzo Fernandez received a perfect cross into his path from Pedro Neto

The Blues started the game with an optimistic approach as they looked to put Liverpool under pressure straight away. And they were rewarded as soon as the 3rd minute as Enzo Fernandez received a perfect cross into his path from Pedro Neto and buried into the far corner.

Cole Palmer and Co. looked like they were ready to defeat the champions and it was evident as only one team was looking to put the extra effort in getting back the ball and making runs into the box.

The first half was then filled with some Chelsea half chances and a midfield battle from both the teams.

Chelsea’s next goal came through an own goal from Quansah

Blues’ next goal came through an own goal from Quansah in the 56th minute when the ball was pin-balling in the penalty area and Virgil Van Dijk in an attempt to clear the lines, struck the ball into Quansah making the ball dribble into the goal as Alisson could only see it get past him.

This looked like game, set and match for the Blues at their home but VVD reversed his mistake in the 85th minute when he headed in a corner and opened the match again for the Reds to at least drag a draw out of a lackadaisical evening. But Maresca’s men were ready to put a stop-block and create a fortress to not let any more goals in.
