Unai Emery will be heartbroken as this loss could potentially lead to them going out of contention for the Champions league spot.

PL sides but the table looks intense for the spots

There is still a chance for Villa to qualify as there is an extra spot this year for the PL sides but the table looks intense for the spots as there is only 2 points between 3rd and 5th. The 6th seeded Chelsea also has a game in hand. The table might become clearer as some more match days pass by.

The Aston Villa vs Man city game started with a bang as Marcus Rashford looked determined to make an impact and almost found the goal as he hit the bar in the very 1st minute in his first homecoming to Manchester.

But soon City caught hold, Marmoush made a darting run from the left weaving through the defence and creating a tasty assist for anyone’s picking, to which Bernardo Silva obliged and opened the scoring in the 7th minute. Emi Martinez by his standards could have saved it but in the moment could not parry it away.

Unai Emery’s men looked more like it after the early goal and started weaving passes

Marcus Rashford looked like a man running on revenge time. His incisive run from the left passing through the defence made it hard for the defence to keep hold of him, this dominance produced result in the 16th minute when Jacob Ramsey got fouled by Ruben Dias in the penalty area as he met a pass from Rashford that broke the defence in one touch.

The referee did not award the penalty at first but after intervention from VAR, referee decided that it should be one.

Rashford then scored the penalty and brought Villa back into the game.

Aston Villa vs Manchester City 2nd half

In the 60th minute, De Bruyne found McAtee through a beautiful trivela to which he almost scored an audacious lob over Martinez but to Pep’s disappointment it was just wide of the goal.

Problems doubled up for Disasi when Doku was brought on by Pep and he continually attempted runs towards the goal. This speculative play reaped rewards at the very end when he made a bursting run into the box and made a trivela pass into the box which was met by Matheus Nunes in the 94th minute of the game. Pep was in ecstasy and Emery did not knew what had happened.

A hard fought game for both the teams but Nunes took it till the very end to make it his own

City would be feeling great after this win as they go now to 3rd in the table but won’t be expecting there to stay long as Nottingham Forest, Newcastle and Chelsea, all have a game in hand.

Aston Villa stay at 7th now and would be hoping that at least some of these teams lose matches so they can still compete for the Champions league spots.
