IPL 2026 and PSL 11 Set for Another Scheduling Face-Off in 2026: The IPL and PSL are heading for another direct clash in 2026, with Pakistan’s franchise league set to run right through the heart of the IPL season. This means a second straight year where the two biggest T20 leagues in the region will overlap, once again competing for viewers, broadcasters, and overseas players.

Pakistan Cricket Board chief Mohsin Naqvi confirmed the PSL 11 window during a roadshow in New York. He announced that the tournament will be held from March 26 to May 3, 2026. These dates overlap significantly with the already-planned IPL 2026 season, which is scheduled to run from March 15 to May 31.

PSL 11 Scheduled During IPL 2026, Franchise Leagues Head for Direct Clash

This clash is not new. The IPL and PSL also ran alongside each other in 2025 after the PSL shifted its window to April and May. That move brought both leagues head-to-head for the first time in a full-season overlap, setting a trend that now looks set to continue.

Why the Overlap Creates Challenges for PSL:

A full overlap makes it tougher for the PSL to bring in top overseas stars. Many of the biggest international players commit to IPL contracts, and with both leagues running at the same time, there is no longer any gap that allows players to move between the two.

The scheduling also divides the attention of global audiences and broadcasters, particularly in South Africa, where interest in T20 leagues is strong. To counter this, the PSL has stepped up its international promotion, including investor-focused events like the New York roadshow where the 2026 dates were revealed.

Some IPL Regulars Choose PSL Instead

Despite the challenges, a few familiar IPL names have chosen the PSL route. Faf du Plessis has decided to skip the IPL 2026 auction and commit to the PSL. This decision came after he was released following a modest IPL 2025, and he has described the move as taking on a new challenge.

England all-rounder Moeen Ali has made a similar choice. After being released by KKR, he opted out of the IPL 2026 auction and signed up for the PSL instead.

Earlier, David Warner went unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction and moved to the PSL, where Karachi Kings appointed him as captain.

Why Some Players Are Making the Switch

The main reason behind these decisions is simple. The PSL offers players more clarity and a defined role, rather than the uncertainty of the IPL auction, where players can remain on the sidelines for weeks without game time.
