Rachin Ravindra was the standout player in New Zealand’s big win over South Africa in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 semifinal in Lahore on Wednesday, March 5. As the final is set to be played against India in Dubai on March 9, Ravindra acknowledged the advantage that Rohit Sharma and his team have.
While New Zealand and other teams faced different conditions in Pakistan, India played all their matches in Dubai, giving them a clear advantage in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final.
Before the final on Sunday, the young batting star hinted that it was unfair, saying the Black Caps don’t know what to expect from the Dubai pitch.
India and New Zealand had already played each other in the final group stage match at the same venue, where the ball turned sharply. However, Ravindra pointed out that the conditions were different in the semifinal between India and Australia on March 4.
With the Champions Trophy 2025 Final just days away, the all-rounder stressed the importance of quickly adapting to the Dubai conditions to outsmart India. Ravindra made it clear that the Black Caps won’t back down, despite India’s familiarity with the conditions in Dubai.
Rachin Ravindra was quoted as saying by Times of India, “We don’t quite know what the Dubai pitch is (like). We saw in our (group) game against India the ball turning, but the other day it didn’t turn so much. We found ourselves adapting and playing according to situations, which we will need to do on Sunday again. We will see in the next couple of days, and hopefully it’s a good cricket wicket.”
Ravindra played a key role in New Zealand’s 50-run win over South Africa, partnering with Kane Williamson for a record 164 runs. However, he only scored six runs against India. Eager to make up for his group-stage performance, Ravindra is focused on delivering a strong showing in the final.
