Rahul Chahar performance reminds of Rashid Khan to Akash Chopra
The Indian team might have lost the recently concluded three-match T20I series against the host Sri Lanka. But there was lot of positives that came out of this T20I series. The Indian youngster Prithvi Shaw was in good rhythm, Suryakumar Yadav continued to show good performances with the bat from the ODI series to T20I series. Finally in this series we could see both Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal bowling together and also performing well together as a pair. Especially Rahul Chahar performances was a big gain for India in this tour.
The Indian team was faced with a worst situation due to COVID-19 impact in the Indian squad. That didn’t take away the spirits from the remaining Indian team and coach Rahul Dravid. In the second T20I when India just scored 132 runs. Indian bowlers made sure that the chase was made as tough as possible. But the third T20I which looked very one-sided as Sri Lanka put a dominant performance against India.
The former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra was impressed by Rahul Chahar performances and said that it reminded him of Afghanistan mystery spinner Rashid Khan. In the third T20I Rahul Chahar picked up three wickets and also looked very threatening to Sri Lankan batsman.
The former Indian cricketer said that “Rahul Chahar doesn’t play regularly in the team India squad since Yuzvendra Chahal is the NO.1 leg spinner. Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar are also other spin options team India have. Varun Chakravarthy is also trying to make a name as a mystery spinner. But Chahar has grabbed every opportunity that has come his way to play for team India”.
Aakash Chopra further added by saying “Chahar balls with lot of confidence and is incisive and accurate. He balls quick through the air and the ball often zips past the batsman on pitching. From his action it seems like is bowling a googly when he is actually delivering a leg spinner. This mystery about him and variations, which reminds me a little about Rashid Khan. If he does well in the IPL Team India will be tempted to play him in the T20I World Cup along with Chahal”.
“Don’t forget Kul-Cha. There was a reason they are playing together for Team India at one point of time. Whenever they get chances, they will do well. Both Kuldeep and Chahal made a major impact in the first two ODIs and where among the wickets as well. Kuldeep got an opportunity in the T20Is too and did not let the chance slip. There is a lesson for KKR in this. They need to play him and give him that confidence”.
The players who started their international career recently namely Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan are strong contenders to be a part of the India’s T20I World Cup squad. When it comes to spinners Rahul Chahar is competing with Yuzvendra Chahal who has been No.1 leg spinner for India. The current depth in Indian cricket is in all departments is always a good new for the Indian fans.
