Popularly known as Ravi Shastri, Ravishankar Jayadritha Shastri is a former Indian cricket player, coach, and commentator. India’s firstborn international player, Shastri, debuted in 1981. He played in the Indian team that became the first to win the World Cup in 1983. Shastri played in a total of 80 tests and 150 ODIs during his 11-year professional career. In the twilight of his career, he served as a versatile team contributor. He used to only throw off-spin, but his skills with the bat got him a spot in the all-rounder group.
Following his retirement, Ravi embarked on a new career as a sports commentator. For the BCCI and other major sports networks, he provided the voiceover for countless historic contests. His command of the language made his voice well-known among followers. The Indian team hired Shastri as their director in 2014. Shastri was hired to replace Anil Kumble after Kumble was suddenly removed from his post as head coach. He led the Indian cricket team for two separate periods.
