Real Madrid president Florentino Perez stole the spotlight on Tuesday after delivering a fiery press conference in the aftermath of his club’s failed La Liga title challenge. Following Madrid’s damaging El Clasico defeat to FC Barcelona, which officially handed the league crown to their rivals, Perez appeared before reporters and turned what many expected to be a normal briefing into a full-blown rant aimed at referees, the media and Barcelona.
The emergency press conference immediately sparked speculation across Spain. Many fans believed Perez could announce major changes behind the scenes after a disappointing campaign, while others even questioned whether the veteran president was considering stepping away from his role at the club.
Instead, Perez made it clear he has no plans to leave. The 79-year-old defended his leadership and insisted he still has the full confidence to continue running Real Madrid despite growing frustration among supporters after losing the title race.
Perez also argued that Madrid’s trophy count during his presidency should have been even higher. Across his two spells in charge, he has overseen one of the most successful periods in the club’s history, winning seven Champions League titles and seven La Liga trophies. However, he hinted that controversial officiating decisions over the years have cost the club additional silverware.

Real Madrid President Not Over Negreira Case
One of the biggest moments from the press conference came when Perez brought up the ongoing Negreira controversy involving Barcelona. The scandal revolves around payments made by the Catalan club to former refereeing official Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira and has remained one of the most talked-about issues in Spanish football.
Perez described the situation as “the biggest scandal in football history” and claimed that referees linked to that period are still involved in competitions today. He also revealed that Real Madrid are preparing a detailed 500-page dossier related to the case.
According to Perez, the club intends to send the report to UEFA once the season comes to an end. The Real Madrid president said the club wants a full investigation into the matter and believes stronger action is needed moving forward.
Barcelona did not take long to respond. The club released a statement confirming that its legal team is reviewing Perez’s comments carefully and considering the next steps regarding the accusations made during the press conference.
Perez’s explosive comments have only added more tension to an already heated rivalry between Spain’s two biggest clubs. Madrid’s loss to Barcelona not only sealed the title race but also intensified criticism surrounding the team’s inconsistent performances throughout the season.
Meanwhile, Barcelona’s celebrations have continued to dominate headlines, with teenage star Lamine Yamal once again becoming a central figure during the club’s title festivities. Perez, however, ensured that the conversation quickly shifted away from the celebrations and back toward the ongoing controversy surrounding Spanish football officiating.
