No Guarding the Galaxy: Real Madrid’s Defenders All Sidelined

4 Min Read

Real Madrid may have hit some lows in this season but the injuries have made it more difficult for them to make a comeback this year. Injuries to main players especially from the defense has made it challenging for Ancelotti to make changes or play makeshift players.

Long term injuries to Rudiger and Ferland Mendy

Ancelotti who likes to play only his preferred set of players rather than heavily rotating the squad has made a few changes but now long term injuries to Rudiger and Ferland Mendy will see him use the reserve players and also more Real Madrid Academy, Castilla players. Raul Asencio, an academy product has already made the most of the occasion as he has made the debut back in November 2024 and now has made himself as one of the starters in the team.

He will surely be one of the players now Ancelotti will depend on to finish the season as he is the only defender that is fit.

Alaba has also been injured again and will again be out for the season

Florentino Perez and now Xabi Alonso who is reportedly in talks to take over after Carlo’s exit in June before the Club World Cup, now will be looking at the list of players who could fit his playstyle and would like to bring in more players who will be playing his dynamic style of football.

The list of injured players goes on in Real Madrid:

  1. Dani Carvajal– Carvajal is suffering from an ACL and will be out till the end of the season and it would be a miracle if he can play in the Club World Cup.
  2. Eder Militao– The centre-back is suffering from a back to back ACL as he endured an ACL injury last year as well. After going through ACL injuries in both the legs, his comeback will be a bit difficult but could be back in the team as he is only 27.
  3. Antonio Rudiger

Rudiger is the latest addition to the list, The German has been a solid rock last season as well thi season but finally the workload has caught up to him. He has been playing with injuries through thick and thin standing alone in that defense. He is suffering from a tear of lateral meniscus and won’t be available before June.

  4. Ferland Mendy–  Alongside Rudiger, Mendy is also the latest addition as both suffered injuries in the Copa Del Rey final against Barcelona, Mendy who was also making a comeback from an minor injury played only 10 minutes in the match and was subbed off with a muscle injury. His return date is unknown.
