Records shattered in Anderson Tendulkar Trophy 2025

Major Series Records

– Most Runs in a Series Between India and England: Shubman Gill accumulated 754 runs, breaking Graham Gooch’s prior Indo-England record of 752 (1990).

– Series Aggregate: The series scored 7,187 runs, a record in any Test series of five or fewer matches. Only the 1993 Ashes (six Tests) saw more runs (7,221).

– Hundreds and Fifties: There were 21 hundreds (tied-most in any Test series, with the 1955 WI-Australia series) and 50 fifty-plus scores (tied record with the 1993 Ashes).

Shubman Gill’s Historic Feats

– Indian Captain’s Runs Record: Gill’s 754 runs broke Gavaskar’s record (732 in 1978-79) for most by an Indian captain in a Test series. Only Don Bradman (810, 1936/37 Ashes) has more as captain in a series.

– Asian Abroad: Gill is the first Asian to score 700+ runs in a Test series in SENA countries (South Africa, England, New Zealand, Australia), eclipsing Kohli’s 692 in Australia (2014-15).

Double Century: Gill became the first Asian captain to score a double century in SENA countries (previous record, Dilshan 193).

– Most Runs by an Asian in England: Gill also surpassed Mohammad Yousuf’s record for most runs by an Asian in an English Test series (631 runs).

– First Indian/Asian Captain to win at Edgbaston: Gill became the first Indian/Asian captain to win a Test at Edgbaston.

Other Notable Players and Match Records

– Narrowest Indian Win: India’s six-run win at The Oval is their closest run victory in Test history.

– Indian Fast Bowling Feat: Mohammed Siraj’s 9-190 are the finest by an Indian at The Oval and fifth-best by an Indian in England. Siraj is the joint highest Indian wicket-taker in an England Test series (23, together with Bumrah’s 2021/22 split). Siraj, Prasidh, and Akash Deep took all 10 wickets in the fourth innings, the fifth time Indian pacers have.

– Four Bowlers with 8+ Wickets at The Oval: Siraj, Atkinson, Tongue, and Prasidh all recorded 8 or more wickets in the Oval Test for the first time by any individual Test at this ground.

(PC- ESPN)

– Jadeja’s Rare All-round Feat: Ravindra Jadeja’s record (1,158 runs and 34 wickets) is only the second touring player after Garry Sobers to have 1,000+ runs and 30+ wickets in a nation.

Joe Root‘s Historic Hundred: Root broke Kumar Sangakkara’s record to become just the fourth player with 39 Test centuries, after Tendulkar, Ponting, and Kallis.

(PC- ESPN)

– Chasing Collapse Records: England’s 332-4 was the second-highest four-wickets-down score in a failed fourth-innings chase.

– Partnership Record in Lost Cause: Root and Harry Brook’s 195th fourth-wicket partnership in the fourth innings was the second-highest in a defeat.

Other Milestones and Rarities

– First Indian Away Series Win Decider: India won an overseas series deciding fifth or sixth Test for the first time in 17 tries.

– Most Runs by Touring Captain Record: Gill equalled Garry Sobers’ world record (722 runs) for most Test series runs by a touring captain.

– Siraj’s England Total: Siraj has 46 English wickets, the third most for an Indian after Bumrah and Ishant Sharma.

The Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy of 2025 will be remembered as one of the greatest record-breaking and most dramatic Test series in the history of modern cricket, thanks particularly to the run-scoring exploits of Shubman Gill and a string of amazing team and individual records from both teams.
