Richard Ngarava has officially been appointed the new team captain of the Test and One-Day International cricket team of Zimbabwe. The cricketer, aged 27, has taken over the position from Craig Ervine, who had stepped down, according to a media statement from the country’s cricket team, Zimbabwe Cricket.
Leadership Changes Announced by Zimbabwe Cricket
The leadership changes were concluded during the board meeting held in the fourth quarter in Harare. Apart from this new change where Ngarava is to take over as captain, young all-rounder Brian Bennett is also to take over as vice-captain in Tests as well as in ODIs. Meanwhile, veteran player Sikandar Raza is to lead in T20 internationals.

He is Zimbabwe’s leading wicket-taker in T20 Internationals, taking 108 wickets in as many matches in just 90 games while having an economy rate of 7.30. Ngarava also has valuable international experience in franchise leagues such as ILT20 (UAE), Lanka Premier League, and Bangladesh Premier League.
Brian Bennett Named Vice-Captain
Brian Bennett just turned 22 and has attained centuries in all forms of international cricket for Zimbabwe. Noted for his aggressive batting style at the top order, he stands out as one of the reliable candidates for the future.
“Brian’s appointment is an endorsement of our view of his maturity, cricketing smarts, and leadership qualities,” said Mukuhlani.
