3 Min Read

Rohit Sharma has regained his spot as the No 1 batsman in the ICC ODI batting rankings just days ahead of India’s ODI series against South Africa. He finds himself back at the pinnacle, courtesy of New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell losing ground for not playing the last two ODIs against the West Indies.

This development is a great boost for Rohit as he leads India into the Ranchi ODI, heading into it with a lot of confidence and another acknowledgment of his brilliance in this format over the last decade.

Ranking Movements: New Zealand and West Indies Shine Despite Mitchell’s Drop

While Mitchell’s ranking decline had opened the path for Rohit Sharma to regain No.1, there has been a number of positive updates for New Zealand in the ODI charts.

Rachin Ravindra climbed to 12th.

Devon Conway rose 11 places to 31st.

West Indies captain Shai Hope also achieved significant movement, jumping up to eighth after his brilliant unbeaten century in their recently completed series. In the ODI bowling rankings, Mitchell Santner jumped up to sixth and Matt Henry broke into a tie for 10th.

In T20Is, star Zimbabwe all-rounder Sikandar Raza earned a career milestone, becoming the No. 1 T20I all-rounder following excellent performances in the ongoing tri-series featuring Pakistan and Sri Lanka, which have showcased his consistency with both bat and ball.

Test Rankings: Gains for England, Bangladesh, and Australia

The latest ICC Test rankings also saw several movements:

England’s Ollie Pope climbed to 24th among Test batters.

Mushfiqur Rahim, Mominul Haque, and Litton Das of Bangladesh moved up the charts following their emphatic win over Ireland.

Australia’s Mitchell Starc leaped to the fifth position in the bowling rankings after impressing against England.

Bangladesh offspinner Taijul Islam went up to 15th.
