In a fierce competition marked by challenging wind conditions, Japan’s Ryoyu Kobayashi emerged victorious in the individual event of the FIS Ski Jumping World Cup in Wisla, Poland. Kobayashi showcased remarkable skills across two jumps, amassing a total of 269.4 points.
The initial attempts unfolded with Kobayashi soaring 131 meters, securing a commendable fifth place. Leading the World Cup general standings, Austrian Stefan Kraft took the top spot with a jump of 132m. Anze Lanisek of Slovenia closely followed, trailing by just 0.2 points, while Germany’s Andreas Wellinger was 2.7 points behind Kraft.
The final round witnessed an exceptional performance from Kobayashi, as he leaped an impressive 139.5m, securing his 31st triumph in World Cup events. Kraft secured the runner-up position with a 129.5m jump in his final round, and Wellinger claimed the third spot on the podium.
Adam Malysz, President of the Polish Ski Association, expressed anticipation for improved performances, stating, “We look forward to much better performances. Individual jumps are good, but as a team, we lack stability.”
However, the host nation faced challenges as Piotr Zyla‘s 14th-place finish emerged as the best result for the Polish team.
The ski jumpers are now gearing up for the individual competition in Szczyrk, Poland, scheduled for Wednesday. The tour will further progress to Zakopane, where the concluding contests of the Polish Tour are slated for January 19-21.
