When Sachin Stopped Time in India

In a country as diverse as India, Tendulkar’s batting brought everyone together. When he played, people from all castes, religions, and regions prayed for him, and his success brought happiness to everyone. But did you know that once he stopped a train, and the reason behind it is truly surprising?

Well, once notable cricket writer the late Peter Roebuck had once shared an anecdote about Sachin Tendulkar, revealing how the cricketer was once responsible for stopping the train. He revealed that Sachin was batting on 98 and the crowd present in the train was so excited to see the Master Blaster complete his century that they made the driver stop the train. He had revealed:

On a train from Shimla to Delhi, there was a halt at one of the stations. The train stopped by for few minutes as usual. Sachin was nearing a century, batting on 98. The passengers, railway officials, everyone on the train waited for Sachin to complete the century. The genius can stop time in India!”

This story, often linked to Peter Roebuck, talks about how, in the 90s, passengers on trains would stop to watch or listen to cricket matches, especially when Sachin Tendulkar was playing.

If a milestone was coming up, they’d ask the driver to stop for a few minutes, and drivers didn’t mind. Even if there was no milestone, they’d wait for Sachin to hit a boundary. Passenger trains were often late, so a short stop didn’t matter much.
