Sahil Thakur Secures 47th Place in Winter Youth Olympic Games Giant Slalom

Sahil Thakur, India’s lone representative, secures the 47th spot in the men’s giant slalom event at the Winter Youth Olympic Games. Clocking 2:02.52, he gears up for the men’s slalom event at Gangwon 2024.

Indian alpine skier Sahil Thakur marked his presence at the Winter Youth Olympic Games by finishing 47th in the men’s giant slalom event held at the Jeongseon High 1 Ski Resort on Wednesday.

Clocking a total time of 2:02.52 (1:04.67 in the first run and 57.85 in the second run), the 16-year-old showcased his skills on the challenging slopes. Sahil is set to continue his Youth Olympics journey, participating in the men’s slalom event at the same venue on Thursday.

Part of a field of 79 athletes, Sahil initially secured the 62nd spot after the first run. However, his performance earned him a spot in the second run, where he finished 47th among the 50 competitors, solidifying his position in the final standings.

Gangwon 2024 marks the first occurrence of the Winter Youth Olympic Games in Asia. Sahil Thakur, the sole Indian athlete at Gangwon, competes alongside approximately 1,900 athletes from 80 countries, with gender representation being equal.
